Our search for the right tea for BALANCE™ took us to Huoshan, in the Dabie Mountains of Anhui, China. After comparing dozens of tea bases, we chose Huang Da Cha—a distinctive yellow tea with mature leaves, sturdy stems, and a character all its own.   

What drew us in was its warm, toasted-grain aroma and full-bodied, mellow taste, shaped by traditional yellowing and roasting. Beneath its rustic appearance was a depth of flavor that could stand at the heart of a botanical blend.

Yellow tea is one of the less widely produced tea styles in the world. We select only tea harvested to a one-bud-and-two-leaf standard, with careful attention to the quality and flavor of the buds and leaves. For each botanical ingredient, we work with local growers in its region of origin and ensure traceability back to its source. This care in sourcing lays the foundation for our formulations.

Yellow tea comes from the same plant as green tea but undergoes a traditional yellowing process called menhuang. During this process, the leaves are held under warm, humid conditions to develop a softer, rounder taste.
